Cyclone Impact on Bangladesh and India’s Eastern Coast

Tropical cyclones not only affect India but also impact neighboring Bangladesh, often resulting in widespread devastation in both countries. Bangladesh’s low-lying geography makes it highly vulnerable to storm surges, heavy rainfall, and floods. The 1970 Bhola Cyclone, which caused more than 500,000 deaths, is one of the most catastrophic cyclones in history. While it primarily struck East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), the cyclone's massive destruction also affected India’s eastern coast.

Cyclones like the 1991 Bangladesh Cyclone continue to highlight the need for regional cooperation between the two countries in terms of disaster preparedness. Both nations have implemented improved early warning systems, evacuation protocols, and post-disaster recovery plans. However, the continued threat posed by cyclones underscores the importance of ongoing vigilance and regional collaboration.
